The hype about Twitter grows and grows and at times it's hard to see what overall good the micro-blogging format achieves. Most apps are there to help you improve your following, manage your tweeting time and generally enhance your business or product brand. So perhaps this latest one from StormID will help to balance some of the self-promotion and make us all feel better by supporting something worthwhile.
Taking it's inspiration from the likes of the breast cancer pink ribbon, the HIV red ribbon and the myriad of coloured plastic bracelets, Twibbon is the latest creation from the Edinburgh based web solutions developer. In essence it allows you to openly display your support for a particular cause via your Twitter profile, and hopefully attract like minded people to that cause.
You simply visit the website, choose the cause you want to support and it will be added to your Twitter profile via the 'Show my support now' button.
And it's not only charities which benefit, you can also show your support for a wide variety of people and issues, some of them less serious than others (e.g. IE 6 Must Die ).
Should you fail to find a cause worth following you can create one of your own, then place a 'Twibute' as your Twitter profile background. |
